The bearings of a foxy rabbit

Just a week ago, I met a bear
Approaching him, I didn't dare
Until I saw that he was trapped
To free himself, he was inapt

Some would say that I was nuts
But for once I showed some guts
Carefully I drew near the bear
And I rescued him from the snare

The bear growled, but walked away
Ending my first encounter of the day
I was soon to meet a fox
His tail caught under some rocks

His wild and maddening stare
Sure gave me quite a scare
But again I let my guts prevail
And I managed loosening his tail

I thought it to be a really strange day
As I watched the fox running away
When suddenly I heard a squeak
Though far away and oh so weak

I rushed over to the sound
Couldn't believe what I had found
There lay, fallen in a pit
The cutest little white rabbit

Sure enough, I felt more than okay
Making my third save of that day
Once free, the rabbit quickly disappeared
And again I thought that this day was weird

I walked on and began to whistle
Not knowing pretty soon, I'd grizzle
'Cos to avoid cracking a rare Dodo egg
I tripped, slipped and broke my leg

There I lay, hurt and helpless
Crying bitter tears, I must confess
Would my life be coming to an end
Crippled in a forest, without a friend

I shouted but help didn't come
And I felt my leg becoming numb
Slowly I got overwhelmed with despair
When suddenly before me, stood the bear

He took a long and hard look at me
And I was certain he would kill and eat me
But he turned around and waggled away
Only to return later that same day

Twice he came, bringing me some wood
The fire I made sure felt real good
And here I thought I was getting skinned
Instead I could even make a splint

To my surprise the fox also paid a visit
Looking for something to help me with
Out of gratitude of being freed
He went hunting for something to eat

After a while, he returned with two peasants
No, just kidding, it were two pheasants
they were incredibly tasty, I dare say
After they were barbecued on wood and clay

The next day, the rabbit visited too
But there wasn't anything he could do
He so desperately wanted to lend a hand
So what he did, I will never understand

He looked like he had a plan, strait and dire
But then,  in a flash, he jumped into the fire
In order to help me out of my misery
He sacrificed his tiny life for me

Moral of the story :

If ever you owe a debt
Don't get in over your head
