He woke with a pounding head
Not sure how he even got into bed
He swore he'd never drink again
But he wasn't a very strong man
So that evening he got drunk once more
Later to be found, dead on the floor
She wanted to quit the dope
'Cos she could no longer cope
She felt she would die unless
She could escape this ugly mess
One last shot she was gonna take...
No-one even showed up at her wake
After foolishly losing his stack
He sold his car, betting to win it all back
He sold his house to win back his car
Still believing he was a poker star
His little girl was his last losing bet
And he hung himself because of that
She smoked a pack of fags a day
And coughed with a lot of dismay
Coughed almost without a pause
But surely, smoking wasn't the cause
People first believed she died of a crime
But she just choked in her own slime
It's a darn shame, isn' it
They all claimed they could quit
what a pity none of them did...
